They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. One perfect example of this fucked up truth is that working out = body acne. No matter the routine, no didn’t matter how quickly afterwards I changed clothes or showered, I was left with a more toned but be-speckled body I certainly didn’t want to show off. In order to manage a persistent outbreak on my back and chest, I turned to Gommage P50 Corps from one of my go-to brands, Biologique Recherche to try and keep the bumps at bay.
As I’ve mentioned before, acne has long been a battle for me. At different times in my life, my hormones have been on my side and at other times they’ve made me Enemy No. 1. And those fun little (and sometimes not so little) bumps didn’t stayed confined to my face. For the past few years, the combination of sweaty exercise and lack of hormonal birth control meant I was breaking out like a 14-year-old boy with braces. Loving the results I got from P50 1970, I thought, why not spread the love all over?
If you’ve used any of BR’s products, you should be prepared for the smell of Gommage P50 Corps. This scrub has a sharp, sour scent only intensified by a hot shower. But you get used to it. When you first squeeze some out, it looks more like one of those body washes with beads in it, but don’t let that fool you — between the scrubbing grains and the combination of acids, you’re getting a double dose of exfoliation so go easy when rubbing it on with your hands.
The directions suggested using the product once a week, so I stuck to it. I used it on my chest, back and arms to deal with acne as well as keratosis pilaris. When I got out of the shower, I followed with Lotion P50 Corps and damn, that shit stung.
I kept up the routine until I used the last squeeze and while I didn’t experience any unpleasant issues like dryness or redness, I can’t say it made a huge difference in clearing things up. My skin was very soft after each use so if you’re looking for a weekly body treatment that can give you some exfoliation year round without discomfort, I recommend it. But if you’re battling body acne, I’ve had better results with the Smoothing Body Scrub from Tata Harper.
The search continues for the perfect body regimen, but I think I’m getting closer. Stay tuned, the bottles are almost empty.
See what else I’ve used up here.
