February Beauty Round-up

How is it already March? January took like 20 years to end and February was over in a blink. If that means we get some warmer weather in NYC soon, that’s fine with me. But the end of another month means another round of beauty empties. A few misses this month, one I was especially surprised by.

Repurchase:

Nécessaire The Body Exfoliator — Just like my face, the acne-prone areas on my body (chest, back and shoulders) need regular exfoliation, too. I love using this gentle scrub twice a week to keep these areas smooth and clear. It isn’t too abrasive, doesn’t dry my skin out and, best of all, it doesn’t create a mess in my shower or clog my drain.

Renée Rouleau Anti Bump Solution — I picked up this acne spot treatment during a particularly bad stretch for my chin and jawline. It is easy to apply and doesn’t sting at all. Best of all, it had a similar effect as my favorite Hexomedine, but being a gel in a pump container makes it much more convenient for travel.

Dr. Grandel Renew Pearls — This serum-cream hybrid could make this list for smell alone. I looked forward to using it every evening instead of a thicker night cream. It absorbs quickly and didn’t clog my pores. In the morning, my skin always looked bright and fresh. My only knock is the serum component ran out first, but I was able to thin it out with a bit of Hydration Station from Versed.

Indie Lee Purifying Face Wash — I adore Indie Lee cleansers (review of the Brightening Cleanser here) and I wasn’t disappointed with this one either. I liked to use it in the evening as my second cleanse once my makeup was removed and liked how clean and smooth my skin was after, not dry or tight.

Elizabeth Arden PRO Triple Protection Factor SPF 50 — Sorry for the lack of link on this one, I picked it up at my dermatologist’s office back in Detroit and sadly can’t find it many places online. But this anti-aging cream and sunscreen in one is lovely for a no-makeup look and is very hydrating. It did adjust perfectly to my skin tone, but I think a person of color would be better to confirm if the “universal tint” aspect is true.

Pass:

Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 Corps — P50 for my body, fantastic. And I did love this convenient spray bottle that worked upside down as well to get my back. The only reason it’s a pass is that I’ve gotten the same results with the much more affordable Clear Acne Spray from Paula’s Choice.

Biologique Recherche Serum PIGM 400 — It also comes down to the price for this serum. While it did give my skin a nice glow, it just didn’t make enough of an impact on my post-acne marks to justify the price tag. It has a nice texture and layers well, though.

Peach and Lily Glass Skin Refining Serum — Sadly, all the hype for this one didn’t make it the right fit for me. It is very hydrating, which I liked, and didn’t pill when layered, but I can’t say my skin looked or felt smoother or more even toned. I think this probably works better on guys and gals in their twenties who aren’t looking for major changes yet. Ugh.
