About

“Time marches on and sooner or later you realize it is marchin‘ across your face.”
— Dolly Parton, Steel Magnolias (1989)

Welcome to Face Value: The name I gave my beauty board on Pinterest waaaaaay back when.

I’m someone who’s spent a shitload on skincare and beauty products through the years. I’ve always had problem skin (read: acne) and I’ve been following a multistep regimen since elementary school, like pre-Proactive and pre-Korean skincare mania.

Knowing I’ve bought it all and tried it all, my family and girlfriends have long sought me out for advice before taking the plunge on the newest cream or serum. So I decided to start compiling my reviews and tips I’ve gathered from actual doctors, estheticians and other smarties who helped me get my skin under control and put them all in one place. No samples or honeymoon-phase write-ups here. When it comes to beauty, I believe in using the entire thing up (as long as my face doesn’t begin to turn green or melt off). It’s been a lot of trial and error so hopefully YOU can benefit from MY financial losses!

But, being a writer, I also didn’t just want to do just another beauty blog.

So I’ve decided to challenge myself to really invest in other new experiences and see beyond my first impression. A journalist by trade, I’m all for being judgy, but with reasons to back that shit up. All opinions are my own and served up with plenty of salt and sass (sorry for the swearing, Mom).

A native of Metro Detroit, I’ve also lived in Chicago and Tokyo and recently relocated back to New York City after far too many years away. I’m excited to get reacquainted with this city I love like a tourist (without being annoying as hell).

In addition to beauty reviews, you can expect to find restaurant reviews and recipe attempts (perhaps more than one), interviews with people I love and admire, and experiences like lectures or classes along with travel diaries from new destinations and sights around town.

And we’ll see where this goes from there… Check back every week to see what I’ve been up to. Thanks for stopping by!
